At the school board meeting on March 7, Aysha Qureshi addressed the board and requested they include Eid as part of their holiday calendar. She noted her daughter attends Woodmont High School, as well as how the Montville community was becoming more accepting towards Muslims. Qureshi requested time off school so her daughter could take part in Eid celebrations.
Employers in the private sector aren’t legally required to offer paid days off for national and state holidays; however, many do. Employees can take the day off using personal time off, vacation days, or sick leave; some employers may require employees to work if they cannot afford to close down business on these holidays.
